{"id":26938,"date":"2024-01-02T11:49:48","date_gmt":"2024-01-02T17:49:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/debrahgoetz.com\/?p=26938"},"modified":"2024-01-02T11:49:48","modified_gmt":"2024-01-02T17:49:48","slug":"2024-the-year-to-rewrite-your-story-know-thyself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dnc-test.myddns.me\/debrah-goetz\/debrahgoetz.com\/2024-the-year-to-rewrite-your-story-know-thyself\/","title":{"rendered":"2024: The Year To Rewrite Your Story &#8211; Know Thyself"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>2024 brings with it hope; hope for more\u2026 Greater opportunities, a fresh new outlook, expanded consciousness and deeper self-love.<\/p>\n<p>We all would like deeper and meaningful experiences for ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>In preparation for the coming year, my soul has been stirring within me something different, something new that I hadn\u2019t previously experienced.<\/p>\n<p>Last November, while out for a hike on a beautiful tree-lined path near my home, I heard a voice ask, \u201cwho would you be without your stories?\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>I stopped in my tracks; a fear ran through me. For a moment, I didn\u2019t know who I would be if I hadn\u2019t identified with my experiences, or judgments others have about me \u2013 all which I had, up until my hike that day, subconsciously taken on, believed and lived.<\/p>\n<p>Since that sunny day in November, I have been in deep self-examination and soul-searching introspection.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times; font-size: 24pt; color: #800000;\"><strong><em>I had to ask myself, \u201cWho Am I?\u201d.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times; font-size: 24pt; color: #800000;\"><strong><em>\u201cDo I really know myself void of my stories?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I thought I knew myself quite well. I have my thoughts and judgments about myself, others and my world. I know what I like and what I dislike.\u00a0 I have a career that I identify with, wonderful friends, a large family &#8211; and memories of experiences with all of the above that have woven the tapestry of my life.<\/p>\n<p>Much of my tapestry has been wonderfully laced; some of it not.\u00a0 A few stitches are missing; a few threads, pulled.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe you, like me, have, up until now, identified with your experiences by telling yourself stories about yourself.\u00a0 \u201c____________ failed; I must not be good enough\u201d. Or \u201cThey said __________about me; they must be right\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Because of these false narratives and our need for connection and security, we create personas for ourselves, masquerading as people we only think we <em>should<\/em> be.\u00a0 These fake personas, in their attempt to protect us from bad things happening again, are whom we\u2019ve become.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times; font-size: 24pt; color: #800000;\"><strong><em>This is what we do.\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times; font-size: 24pt; color: #800000;\"><strong><em>We adjust our personalities and our lives to suit the glaring lens through which we view our outer world.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho am I without my stories?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As I begin the New Year, and having explored this question for a few months, I\u2019m allowing the question to live bigger in me, and upon searching for the answer, I know that my ego requires some adjustment.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, I might even say, my ego needs to be \u2018broken\u2019 &#8211; much like a trainer \u2018breaks\u2019 a horse.<\/p>\n<p>The ego has caused suffering through its lack of control and discipline. The ego has been allowed to run wild, so to speak, arguing for its every whim, forming judgments about its world, creating wars within itself, and succumbing to every craving, and the next shiny new object.<\/p>\n<p>The ego over-thinks: it worries; it judges and schemes, attempting to rule its world in order to feel safe.<\/p>\n<p>However, the ego\u2019s tactics have caused us to lack trust in ourselves. And the absence of trusting ourselves is a sign of not knowing ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>How do we tame the ego?<\/p>\n<p>Give your ego, with all of its fearful stories of suffering, a voice.\u00a0 Yet, now, rather than believing everything it judges, giving it everything it wants, and making it larger than yourself, love it, and put it on the top shelf in the closet of your life.<\/p>\n<p>Train the ego to be in submission to your true self.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times; font-size: 24pt; color: #800000;\"><strong><em>We, then, realize the true reality of safety can only be found in one place: Inside<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And when inside, a new persona is birthed, or rather, resurrected from the sarcophagus where we\u2019ve kept it hidden far too long.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s time to call ourselves back home from the ego\u2019s journey, and allow a rebirth, a new story to emerge and be written.<\/p>\n<p>What are you believing about yourself that isn\u2019t true?<\/p>\n<p>What are you doing &#8211; only because you believe you should?<\/p>\n<p>What associations have you made for yourself to \u2018be enough\u2019 for others?<\/p>\n<p>What false perceptions do you have about what others expect you to do and be?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times; font-size: 24pt; color: #800000;\"><em>What beauty (creativity, love, power, authenticity) might be ready to emerge from within you?<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What if you could harness THAT?<\/p>\n<p>Do it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Make 2024 the year of discovering something bigger, greater, and powerfully real.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A Year of Discovering YOU.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2024 brings with it hope; hope for more\u2026 Greater opportunities, a fresh new outlook, expanded consciousness and deeper self-love.
